World Diabetes Day: Glucose, Insulin, & Diabetes

Infographic on World Diabetes Day. The first panel explains how eating food increases blood sugar levels, and how insulin, secreted by the pancreas, allows cells to take in the glucose and use it to produce energy. The second half of the graphic explains that type 1 diabetes is due to the immune system attacking insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, while type 2 diabetes is due to the body becoming resistant to insulin's effects. Gestational diabetes, which can occur during pregnancy, is also highlighted.
