Day 21 of the chemistry advent timeline starts with John B. Goodenough, whose work led to the modern lithium-ion batteries that power our phones, laptops, and other electronic devices.

Tu Youyou developed a drug to fight malaria which has saved millions of lives in developing countries. She won a Nobel Prize for her work in 2015.

Harry Kroto co-discovered buckminsterfullerene in 1985. He and the colleagues he discovered it with won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996.
